Certified Automated Gate Operator Installer
The Certified Automated Gate Operator Installer is a nationally recognized certification, sponsored by the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA). Eligibility for the certification includes candidates who have:
- Completed a self-study guide, which teaches various aspects of automated gate operator systems.
- Successfully passed a written examination based on the information provided by the self-study guide.
- Worked two or more years in installing and servicing automated gate operator systems. (Please note that if you have less than the two-year requirement of work experience, you may still complete the first two steps, and will be awarded with certification once the two-year requirement is met.)
Once all three steps are successfully completed, the candidate will be nationally certified.
Re-certification takes place every three years. Candidates must maintain certification by resubmitting an application and maintaining the proper amount of educational credits.

Exam applicants will be charged a $250 fee by IDEA, which administers the certification. AFA members registering and submitting the required payment to IDEA will receive a Self Study Guide from IDEA and a $50 rebate check from AFA.
